Florida CareerLINK’s Fall Job Fair Draws Hundreds of Local Job SeekersCLEARWATER, FL (Oct 3, 2005) Florida CareerLINK’s Fall Job Fair, held Sept. 27 at Tampa’s A la Carte Event Pavilion, drew rave reviews from the job seekers and employers alike. Representatives from more than 40 local companies met face-to-face with nearly 800 quality candidates, including Hurricane Katrina evacuees seeking a new start in Tampa Bay.“We had reports of several individuals hired on the spot at the Job Fair,” said Pam Kauten, president of PEAK Connections, Inc., Florida CareerLINK’s parent company. “Our employers could not believe the quality of the candidates they spoke with, and considered the event a very valuable investment of their time.” One recent arrival from New York, Maureen Coffee, had a particularly lucky day at the Job Fair. Not only did she land a job with CCS Medical, but she also won $1000 from Florida CareerLINK in a drawing held at the event. Hurricane Katrina survivors – both human and animal – received a great deal of attention and consideration at the Florida CareerLINK Fall Job Fair. Several evacuees reported promising conversations with local employers and are looking forward to joining Tampa Bay’s thriving workforce. They were also encouraged to continue their job search on Florida CareerLINK’s new web site, www.katrinacareersolutions.com, which allows job seekers to search for jobs and employers to post them for free. The St. Francis Society Animal Rescue collected over $150 in donations, recruited 10 volunteers, and signed up 15 individuals interested in adopting pets left homeless and abandoned during Hurricane Katrina.
